About us
Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU), established in 2010 as Nepal's first state-owned technical university, is dedicated to advancing higher education, research, and extension services in agriculture, forestry, veterinary science, animal sciences, fisheries, and related fields. Located in Rampur, Chitwan, the university was formed by integrating the Institute of Agriculture and Animal Sciences (IAAS) and the Hetauda Forestry Campus. AFU follows the Land Grant Model, combining teaching, research, and community extension to address national agricultural challenges and support rural development. The university offers academic programs ranging from bachelor's to PhD levels while emphasizing innovation, sustainable agricultural practices, climate resilience, and practical skill development. Through its Second Strategic Plan (2023–2032), AFU aims to strengthen academic excellence, promote research and technological advancement, enhance industry collaboration, encourage community engagement, and produce competent graduates who can contribute to Nepal's food security, environmental conservation, and socio-economic development.
